Auriga Academy Trust Planning Consent

We are delighted to announce that the planning application for a new Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) school has been unanimously approved by Richmond Council Planning Committee.

The scheme, which was submitted on behalf of the London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames (LBRuT), will provide much-needed additional SEND school places on the site of the former Strathmore School in Richmond. The new school will form part of the Auriga Academy Trust which provides vital school places for primary and secondary age pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.

In addition to the new purpose-built two-storey teaching block, the proposal will also provide a range of outdoor teaching areas and play spaces including a new multi-use games area (MUGA), landscaping and new sensory garden.

The scheme also delivers some fantastic ecological and sustainability improvements including:

-95%+ savings in on-site regulated carbon emissions
-A 40%+ net increase in ecological value through new landscaping and ecology enhancements
-80% of the roof space will be used as green/brown roofs.

All in all, this has been a fantastic and really rewarding scheme for Daniel Watney LLP to lead on with the planning. We'd also like to say a big thank you to the case officers at (Richmond and Wandsworth Councils) and the Planning Committee Members at Richmond Council for dealing with the application so professionally.

This is a fantastic and worthwhile project, and we are delighted that it has been approved. We look forward to seeing the Auriga Academy Trust deliver this much-needed new school for the children of Richmond.
